First Letter From the MTC 12/27/95

My family and friends outside the MTC (back in the day, you could bring a whole group with you to the MTC)

My cute nephew Thomas (who is currently serving a mission in Mexico) and niece Brittany.

Mom, Dad & Family,

Well, this is my first letter home from my mission! In case you couldn't tell, these are my travel plans. Pretty early hu?

Things are going well here so far. My companion is Sister Clements. She seems really cool. She is very talkative and out going. She's from Tooele (I don't know how to spell that) She is going to San Antonio Texas. She is is an interpreter for the deaf, so maybe I'll get a chance to practice up a bit before I leave! :)

I haven't met anyone else going to South Africa. In fact when I was talking to the people about immunizations the lady looked up my name under my mission. In all the other missions there were several names listed, but I was the only one under South Africa. I don't know if that is just Sisters or Elders also. I t might be interesting. I guess I'll find out in culture class.

My district seems pretty cool. I haven't met all of them yet, but the ones I have seem really cool. Our roommates are really cool also. I know one of the Sisters, Sister Bodell. She went to Dixie College and we went there for a retreat last Feb. for institute and I met her there. She is way rad! We get along really well.

I'm pretty lost when it comes to finding my way around campus. Luckily my companion has a good sense of direction. The food seems to be alright. I didn't eat much this evening, my hunger left me, probably because of nerves. But Kim, I didn't eat a dessert and I did eat a salad! :)

Well, I guess I'll end this. I am very tired. I think I probably have a big day ahead of me tomorrow, so off to bed I go.

I am so glad to be here, and so glad that I chose to come on a mission. It will be a great growing experience for me. I love you all very much. Thanks for all your support!

Love,
Michelle
"Sister Zenger"

(This letter was written on the back of a paper that included my flight plans for when I would be leaving the MTC in three weeks from this date. I wrote this the first night I was there at the MTC)
