Durban North (09/16/96)

Family-

Hello! Howzit?  Things are well here in Durban.  We've been really busy here.  It feels great!  We have been finding and teaching a lot of really good people.  We are teaching the coolest family!  Sister Allen and I tracted out a family and the referred us to another family upstairs from them in the flat complex.  When we knocked on the door, the woman opened the door, the first thing she said was, "Welcome home, come in". We went in and taught them. It was cool!  Their names are Victoria and Antone.  We weren't able to see them again for a couple of months because they were never home.  Just a couple of weeks ago we stopped by again and we were able to visit with them.  Victoria told us that they were in bed when we knocked and Antone jumped up and said, "It's the Sisters!"  He just knew somehow.  Anyhow, we found out that they had both been reading the Book of Mormon and they both knew it was true.  Anyhow, to make a long story short, they are getting baptized on the 13th of October.  They are so cool!  I am excited for them!

We are planning on having 4 baptisms on September 29. They are a bunch of youth.  The thing that is amazing here is that the church is growing mainly among the blacks and it's the children and youth who grasp onto it the most.  In this ward there are so many young children who come to church by themselves week after week.  It really is sweet!  But anyways, on the 29th there are 3 Zulu boys, Bongani, Subusiso, and Julius and one Indian girl, Delene, who we are planning on baptism for. It should be nice. They are all really cool!

Other than that, I don't know that there is much more to write about.  Things are going great!  I love being a missionary. I'm so grateful for Sister Jensen because she is such a hard worker.  No longer do I have to be the one always motivating.  I'm able to relax or take a break from constantly trying to motivate.  It's a nice break.  but I love being able to work hard. We have been so busy lately. We haven't even had time to go tracting because we've been teaching so much.  It's nice.

Hey, I've decided what I should go into when I get home.  I'll be a wedding consultant!  Just kidding, it's just that I'm getting a lot of practice on mission.  One of the members here got married this weekend and we all helped with all of the wedding arrangements, but she also asked me to do her hair and make-up.  It was really fun. I enjoyed it!

It looks like there is a possibility that I'll stay in Durban North even another month. Sis. Pickett was supposed to go home in 2 1/2 weeks, but she just decided to extend, so there won't be as much moving around this next month as we thought.  But, we'll see what happens. I would love to stay longer!

I love being a missionary!  It gets better and better the longer I'm here. And my testimony continues to grow every day. I love the Gospel!  I love the Book of Mormon!  It is an incredible book.

I love you all very much!  Please take care!

Love,

Michelle :)
