Durban North (09/23/96)

Dear Family-

Howzit? Sanibona, unjani?

Things are fine here.  I cut my hair off on Friday. It had grown so long and the perm that I had destroyed my hair, so I just cut off the damaged part, that was just about all of it! J/k - it is just above my shoulders now.  It's nice to have it so short.

It's been cold and rainy the past few days.  They say it will be like this up until November and then the real heat comes.  I don't look forward to the heat.  We had a hot day on Saturday and it about killed me- I was exhausted by the end of the day. I guess I'll get used to it!

The work in the area is going good.  It's exciting to see so many people make the commitment for baptism.  I'm a little sad that I won't be able to be here to see them be baptized. But I am beginning to feel like it is time for a change. not necessarily from the area, but mostly from Sister Allen.  I think we've been together a little too long.  Don't get me wrong, she's great and we've had a great companionship, but 4 1/2 months is a long time for a companionship.

In a weeks time we are having a 2 day "fun"  conference.  I guess it's kind of like a reward for us all because there have been (or will be) more baptisms this month than there ever have been in this mission.  I think that it will be fun.  We are going to place called Midmar Dam.  It's suppposed to be really nice there, but it's also supposed to be cold there.

I'm really curious about what will happen, or by the time you get this, what is happening with Paragon.   I just got the letter yesterday that says that if you haven't gotten the funding by 30 September that you'll move to Reno.  That might be kind of cool to move to Reno.  Anyhow, I'm anxious to see what happens.

On Sunday evenings we go to the first counselor in the mission presidency's flat to have a small devotional and for pudding.  It's so lakker though because President McKay (the 2nd counselor) is related to David O. McKay, but because of his family ties he has known every prophet personally since Joseph Fielding Smith. Each time we go he tells us a few stories about a certain prophet.  It's really cool to learn these personal experiences about the prophets.  I love Pres. McKay!  He and Sister McKay are the coolest people!  I love spending time with them.   I have learned so much from them.  In December Pres. McKay may become the Mission President and Pres. Stevenson may go to be the Mission President in the Islands.  They are thinking of splitting  the mission in half.  It will be interesting to see what will happen.

I'm, or we're at the laundry mat and there is a little girls here named Candice. She's the owner of the stamp. She's been having fun with decorating my letter. (there are little pink heart stamps all over the letter)

Well, I had better go!  I love you all very much!  Take care!

Love,

Michelle
